Kellyville Digger's family relieved he has been found after 95 years

THE great niece of missing Kellyville soldier Private Arthur Russell wept tears of relief at the recent discovery of his final resting place 95 years after his death.

Jan Bell, of Mt Pleasant in Wollongong, said the discovery of her great uncle’s remains at Fromelles in France had solved a family mystery spanning three generations.

Overwhelmed with the interest and compassion of onlookers, she is delighted Castle Hill RSL Sub-branch has begun the process to rename Rouse Hill’s Second Ponds Reserve in honor of Mr Russell and his brother William, who also died in World War I in Belgium.

Mr Russell’s family were never able to bury their son, the location of his remains unknown until April when they were discovered using DNA technology.

“Over the years my mother would say ‘I wonder what ever happened to Arthur’,” Mrs Bell said.

“Arthur was my mother’s uncle, and I don’t think she ever stopped wondering about him.

Lisa Jan Bell of Mesquite, passed away on March 15, 2009 at the age of 49. She was born in Dallas on Oct. 10, 1959. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Bettye Bell of Canton. She is survived by a brother, Les, Sister in Law, Pam, and aunt Joyce Wiser, an aunt, Gracelee Moran, several cousins and last but certainly not least, her beloved pets, Casper and Daisy.

Jan graduated from Canton High School and followed her brother in attending the University of Texas. She obtained a social Work Degree and went to work as a Child Protective Services Investigator for the State of Texas. She was a member of Sunnyvale Baptist Church.

Poor health became a constant burden but did not defeat her. She became an active volunteer serving Hospice, Salvation Armn, angle Tree and also served in the Ambassadors Program for DFW Airport....
