At its 25th annual meeting and anniversary celebration June 1, 2011 at the LaBelle Civic Center, the Gulf Citrus Growers Association highlighted 25 years of service to the citrus growing industry of the region and recognized the “pioneer” members and leaders that built the organization over the years.

Citrus grower leaders in Southwest Florida’s “Gulf Citrus” production region “officially” incorporated the Gulf Citrus Growers Association in 1986 to address the needs of a rapidly growing citrus industry in the region due to a series of freezes in the 80’s up in Florida’s traditional growing belt in the central part of the state. What is now called the “Gulf” Production Area in state statutes produces between 22-25% of the “Sunshine States” citrus.
