Nixon : The CTE budget is $7 million, including salaries. For equipment, it's only $60,000. Ag at Eagleville could use that by itself. Dividing that among 174 teachers is hard. We get about $500,000 in federal funds. About $120,000 goes to (three) salaries and the rest to equipment. That's why the board wants to move (the CTE salaries) to the general budget and put that money back to equipment. One of the big things next year will be textbook adoptions. I get $60,000 to $80,000 for textbooks. All of our schools teach 15 different courses that all need a book, but you can't get them with $80,000. There's just no way. A book is $125 or $150 each and we use them for six years, but for our area, we have to be up to date for industry so kids can be prepared. We're updating our software. In classes, we're using Office 2003. A kid can't graduate using that, especially in business and marketing. Just that is $60,000.
