/ PRNewswire / - The invention of the DVR system presented an obstacle for television advertisers, because they worry about their public value would fast-forward through their messages. Although these concerns may have merit, a recent Adweek / Harris Poll shows that regardless of the ability to use a DVR system, Americans can not be giving their full attention to their television screens. According to a recent survey, watching TV most Americans also surf the Internet (56%) and many do other activities like reading a book, magazine or newspaper (44%) go on a social networking site (40%) or text their mobile phones (37%).

Some of the findings of A recent Adweek / Harris Poll investigation 2309 U.S. adults surveyed online between 24 and 26 May, 2011 by Harris Interactive.
Other findings include:
Three in ten say they shop online while watching television (29%) say they read a little book on a device eReader watching television (7%) although more than two in five admit to reading a traditional book, magazine or newspaper (44%) while watching TV, even surf on small numbers of the Internet on a tablet computer while watching television, although most do so on a normal computer (56%) and 18% do so on their mobile phone; Three in ten Americans say they do something else while watching TV (30%) and only 14% say they do not do any other activities while watching television.
